Kilo came to us as a very young guinea pig, only a couple of months old. We were informed that she was afraid of other pets and humans, and we have found this to be partially true. Kilo is a unique member of our sanctuary, with her own distinct personality and set of challenges.
Her Story and Behavior:
Kilo is extremely shy and fearful. Not even a yummy fresh snack will lure her over. In the guinea pig sanctuary, she often finds routes to walk that keep her the most hidden, reminiscent of how a rat might navigate through its tunnels. When we attempt to hold her, she screams and struggles the entire time, requiring us to take extra precautions to ensure her flailing doesn’t cause her harm.
Her Interactions:
Despite her fear of humans, Kilo does wonderfully with other guinea pigs. She is polite and playful, often snuggling up with Whisper when she feels lonely or afraid. Her bond with Whisper has been heartwarming to witness, as it provides her with comfort and a sense of security.
Her Progress:
While Kilo's fear of humans is a challenge, we are dedicated to providing her with a safe and supportive environment where she can thrive. We respect her need for space and continue to work on building her trust slowly. Her interactions with other guinea pigs show her potential for social connection, and we are hopeful that, with time and patience, Kilo will become more comfortable and confident in her surroundings.
